Newark Intl. Airport Terminal B

The Expansion of the existing three Terminal B Connectors is to alleviate the severely constrained capacity of the existing passenger security checkpoints. This projects base mandate is to increase the footprint of existing Connectors to increase the capacity of the security queuing and screening areas as well as provide additional space for passenger amenities such as additional food court space, post security concessions and airline lounges. The B1, B2 and B3 Expansions are concentrated around the existing airport connectors and predominantly expand airside of the existing Terminal. This provides awaiting passengers with views of the airside and provides the passenger with a visual experience of the airside from security screening through boarding. The geometries of our design where driven by navigating through the series of vertical and horizontal limitations and constraints of both the existing building and all the apparatus that services and surrounds the terminal while still providing as much natural light to the screening passengers via skylights above and massive expanses of curtain wall. All this natural light provides warmth to the modern security screening experience that is typically absent in other airports facilities.
